HOT POWDERED BEVERAGES

Dear, Valued BTS Members

The Chair of the Hot Powdered Beverage Follow-up Committee would like to thank all the valued BTS members who attended the January 16th tasting. 12 hot powdered beverages were tasted, discussed and evaluated. 100 points were allocated for each beverage based on; taste (50 points), texture & smell (20 points), visual appeal (20 points), packaging (5 points) and originality (5 points). The official results are listed below.

The official results tabulated by the BTS Independent Evaluation and Adjudication Commission and reviewed by the BTS Audit Board have been sanctioned for public release. They are as follows:

1st -73.8/100 - Nescafe Caramel - Poor packaging (circa 1987) did not stop Nestle's 71 year old powerhouse Nescafe brand from coming out on top.

2nd - 72.8/100 - Lavender Milk Tea - Sounds bad, taste delicious!

3rd - 71/100 - Maxim Mocha Gold - Great taste, great texture, great smell but neither maxim nor gold enough to come out on top.

4th - 70.1/100 - Maxwell House French Vanilla - The French vanilla flavouring of this Kraft Food's flagship coffee brand earned America's largest food manufacturer a respectable position.

5th - 60.3/100 - Maxwell House Maxiccino - Maybe "Mexiccino" would have tasted better.

6th - 60/100 - Ovaltine Chocolate - A long time favourite, but not with the BTS.

7th - 50.3/100 - Drink Me Chai, Vanilla Chai - This UK import could not hold its own in sugary world of hot powdered beverages.

8th - 48.8/100 - Milo - Another benchmark of the hot powdered beverage world has been disgraced by the culinary acumen of the BTS.

9th - 48.2/100 - Orzo Bimbo - One never knew powdered barley could taste like really good, bad coffee.

10th Place - 44.4/100 - Poma Almond Powder - In concentrated form this Chinese import tastes liked liquefied marzipan, hence the score.

11th Place - 28/100 - Horlicks - Yet another mainstay of the hot powdered beverage world put to shame by the BTS.

12th Place - 27.3/100 - Edo Pack - A healthy soy based beverage. Enough said.

The Chair of the Hot Powdered Beverage Follow-up Committee would like to extend its appreciation to all the valued BTS members who made the culinary exploration of the hot powdered beverage world a success.

Sincerely,

Permanent Chief Secretary

  2. The results show a heavy coffee bias, as evidenced by nearly every grain-based beverage being in the bottom half. Had the grain beverages been properly prepared they may have had a fair chance. Now we'll never know as yet another once proud organization- this time the BTS, falls victim to the evil coffee lobby's endless and ubiquitous hype machine.
